Comparative Studies Alumnus, Carmen Duarte, Releases New Book
Friday, Oct 21, 2022Dr. Carmen Duarte, who graduated from the Comparative Studies program in Fall 2020, has relesed a new book titled El barco que nos llevó a la guerra de Angola.
Here is the book's synopsis: In the 1980s, what appeared to be a placid luxury Russian family cruise ship, with regular stops in the quiet port of Havana, served as the perfect camouflage for transporting Cuban troops to Angola. A ship converted, during one of its voyages, into a witness to the chance meeting of two women who decide to unite to fight a common aggressor. Alicia and Tania are, at the same time, victims and prisoners of the sexual harassment of two high-ranking Cuban officials.A highly symbolic fictional story that recovers and recreates fragments of the true and tragic history hidden behind the presence of hundreds of women in the war in Angola.
